The Dariu Foundation · Kenya

Applied AI literacy for Kenya's next generation of creators.

We have worked in Kenya since January 2025 — training teachers, partnering with counties, and opening Dariu Tech Clubs™ where young people learn to build with technology rather than simply consume it. This is the home of our Kenya operations: what we run, where we run it, and how to reach us.

Our work

One country programme, built to outlast us

The Dariu Foundation is an international charitable foundation that empowers young people through digital education, with programmes across Southeast Asia and Africa. Under our 2026–2030 strategy — The AI Initiative: Empowering the Next Generation — Kenya is where that vision meets the classroom.

Our flagship here is the Dariu Tech Club™ Applied AI Literacy programme. It began in Kilifi County's vocational training centres in January 2025 and now runs through three delivery streams: two county-wide VTC programmes on the coast, and a national secondary-school pathway with The President's Award – Kenya.

We measure ourselves on what remains when we step back: certified local trainers, working clubs, and county partnerships on formal footing.

County partnerships

Formal MoUs with the County Governments of Kilifi and Taita Taveta anchor every programme in public institutions.

Master Trainer cascade

We certify local educators who then train their peers — the engine that lets the programme grow without growing dependent on us.

Dariu Tech Clubs™

School-based clubs where learners apply AI tools to projects of their own — and showcase them to their communities.

Programmes

Three streams, one goal

From the coast outward: each stream carries the same curriculum and the same cascade model, adapted to its institutions.

Stream A

Kilifi County

Where it began. From a seven-centre pilot, the programme now runs in 42 vocational training centres across the county.

  • 80+ Master Trainers graduated at the Kilifi Regional Showcase, Mariakani VTC, June 2026
  • 13 student projects presented from Mariakani, Roka and Mdzongoloni
  • Trainer-led delivery now county-wide

Active · since Jan 2025

Stream B

Taita-Taveta County

Launched with the County Government in Voi on 3 July 2026, bringing the programme to 32 vocational training centres.

  • 54 instructors in Master Trainer training since 6 July
  • Graduation as certified Master Trainers in August 2026
  • Lead centres in Voi, Mwanjila and Taveta preparing September showcases

Launched · Jul 2026

Stream C

The President's Award – Kenya

An Engagement Framework signed in May 2026 brings Applied AI Literacy into ≈60 pilot senior secondary schools — Award Centres spanning 26 counties and 8 regions.

  • A national pathway through the Award's network of 1,500+ schools
  • Award Leaders trained as programme champions
  • Rollout under way from June 2026
